They’re always a challenge when it comes to buying presents for: men.

They’re also usually challenged when it comes to buying presents!

Of course there are your more traditional presents and gifts for men such as socks, ha ha, but believe it or not my son was disappointed that he didn’t get any socks for his last birthday because he really needed some!

I had bought him one of those really cool scrolling LED dog tags and envisaged him wandering around a club late one night with “Mine’s a double Vodka Redbull” scrolling across it but he had other ideas, socks!

So let that give you a quick moment to pause for thought, the man or men you are buying presents for might just be holding out for one of the more traditional presents men often get!

However, for those of you with men who already have drawers full of nice work socks, weekend socks, working out socks, decorating socks and going out socks, here are a few other ideas!

Boxer Shorts – Yes only one step away from socks but these days there are some great boxers out there, or favourite pants as the man in my life likes to exclaim when he opens the drawer and sees one of his few posh pairs neatly laid out on top. At around £20+ a pair let’s face it he just isn’t ever going to buy any of those for himself! Top brands include Diesel, DKNY, Waxx and Calvin Klein

Shirts – Again it’s clothing but it’s not a Christmas jumper! Some men are funny about spending upwards of £50 on a shirt or any item of clothing come to that, but you’ll be walking down the high street one day and there will be one of those nice men’s salon or outfitters kind of places with a shirt in the window that catches your eye, buy it for him, he will love it.

Just make sure it isn’t from a catalogue, top man or the current equivalent just like us girls there is nothing worse than seeing someone else in the same clothes as you, and men can be the same, my guy refuses to wear something again if he has seen someone else wearing it!

Books – Is it boring? Will he like it? Here’s a great way to make sure it’s not, and he will. Tell him to setup a wishlist on Amazon, that way he can add books he wants (and anything else sold by Amazon too, although that 42 inch LCD monitor he’s after might be pushing it a bit!) and you can buy them without him knowing which ones you’ve got for him. You can also point friends and family at his wish list too, just by entering his email address, brilliant.

Does he like music? Of course there are lots of CD and DVD gifts that you can get him and indeed the wishlist is brilliant again for this, but what about these neat little Bluetooth wireless speakers from Logitech? They are Bluetooth enabled so you can use them to play music wirelessly from a mobile phone or laptop and the sound quality is excellent, it’s also got a rechargeable battery like a phone so you just plug it in and then when it’s fully charged you can take it all round the house with you, or wherever he gets banished too when he needs some “cave time”. Maybe even to the garage as it has a 30 metre range.

If he really appreciates good sound though, and you really appreciate him, then buy some speakers from the Bose range. The sound quality that comes out of even their smallest computer speakers will have him drooling, starting at around £80 they are not cheap but they are amazing and he will be very impressed at your technical prowess as a result of choosing Bose!

For something completely different how about an indoor skydiving session? Yes you read that correctly, indoor skydiving! Imagine a great big hair dryer pointing upwards with a room at the top of it, with a steel mesh across the floor, and you are visualising an indoor sky diving session.

I’m not going to name names on this page because hopefully the advertisers on this page will be picking up all of the keywords I’m using and displaying the appropriate ads, but just in case, you can of course Google it and you will find the leading companies, I know because I did it for my man and he loved it.

I know that one of his lifetime ambitions  is to experience weightlessness, or go up into space. Now the last time I looked Virgin Galactic was outside my budget, as is the ‘vomit commit’ plane where they take you up really high and then send the plane into a free fall for 1 mile, enabling the occupants to experience a similar sensation to weightlessness, so indoor skydiving was the next best thing! Priced at around £65 for a session for two with a DVD of the day it’s great. Be advised though it doesn’t last very long once inside, hmm sound familiar, and once they have got you hooked with a couple of quick sessions you may well end up buying further ‘flights’ at the end of the session, be warned!

However, my top presents men enjoy, or mine does anyway, are hand written poems, from the heart with a good helping of humour and a twist of sexual innuendo. In fact my guy loves getting them so much it has become a bit of a tradition and now I even get one back, on our last anniversary I got two, see what I did there?! Happy shopping girls :-)
